The share of the global population living in cities had experienced a huge increase from about 42.9% in 1990 to 54.0% in 2014 and was estimated to reach about 66.0% in 2050 ( UN DESA, 2018), reflecting the rapid growth of global urbanization ( Buhaug and Urdal, 2013).
